Fashion Copying: STORE/BRAND

by: Alyssa del Rosario   There are positive and negative affects when it comes to fashion copying/knock-offs.  Well- known retailers, such as Zara, Forever 21, H&M, have the authority to profit from other designers.   In reference to my personal experience, I have been to Zara for a few times and I have noticed a lot of knock-offs in their stores.   I oftentimes wonder why the original designer is not taking action on this situation.   At the same time, I though about how this will benefit people that can afford this.   Fashion is an everyday thing where many influencers are everywhere.   Although, this seems wrong in different ways, this can also benefit others.   Look-alikes in retail stores are being sold for a much cheaper price, which can help people afford clothing styles that celebrities wore.   In an article, “The Copycat Economy,” written by Helena Pike, she stated, “The fact that near-identical copies of luxury fashion de...

Why accessories matter in fashion

when we talk about accessories, it does not only limit to jewelries. Handbags, sunglasses, belts shoes are also part of accessories. And we dare say, no women or men today live without a single accessory in their wardrobe. Accessories play a huge roe in fashion. Accessories are just as important as clothing, it's what completes everyone's look. Accessories can be fun and exciting. Everyone at one point over accessorized when they were younger because accessories looked so good. It is always fun and exciting to be your own stylist trying to pair the right accessories. It can also change your mood or explain your mood. Accessories can also create different looks. In a NYTimes article by Oliver Simone he states that "The accessories business is healthier than the apparel business." I strongly agree because accessories do pull together an outfit. For example, your outfit can be vintage, but as soon as you throw some accessories it does the magic and your outfit w...

Forever 21

Forever 21 is known for all their styles, constantly changing their clothing, and pretty much staying updated with trends. Forever 21 has clothing for everyone, but a problem with this is that their clothing is made usually for “tall, white, skinny people”. But one thing that is a plus for Forever 21 is that they have a plus section, which is for those girls that are bigger. There are certain sizes for skinny bodies and then there are bigger sizes for other people, and then there are people who can not find clothing because they are stuck in the middle. Which can be hard for many people because they end up really thinking about their body, they become more conscious about their body. Especially nowadays, when the ideal body is being skinny or even having a small waist and a big butt or thighs. Also there are magazines, commercials, and ads that have these type of models in them that make us even more conscious. From my own experience as an employee at Forever 21, I have noticed that...

Are Fashion Schools Worth It?

by: Alyssa del Rosario Fashion schools have grown tremendously over the years, along with multiple career opportunities.  Career opportunities include retail, designers, marketing, sales and many more.  In reference to the article, “Is Fashion Education Selling a False Dream?,” written by Imran Amed and Robin Mellery-Pratt, they stated,  “There are more than 30 colleges and universities now offering fashion degree courses, with thousands of fashion design graduates each year.”  The result shows that people are interested in pursing an education in fashion.  The topic of fashion education sounds like a controversial topic, since individuals are willing to make a profession out of it based on outside influencers everywhere.  Young people are leaning towards working as fashion designers due to the exposure as seen on social media and on television.  The rising popularity of fashion graduates displays the decline of job offers in the fashion industry...
